Lesson 144 — Advanced

Capstone: Ship a Multimodal Build

L12 ke saare pieces ab ek jagah: ek feature jo image ya audio leta hai, sahi modality pipeline se guzarta hai, validated jawab deta hai aur production mein observe ho sakta hai. Is lesson mein hum scope se lekar ship checklist tak ka poora rasta ek blueprint ke roop mein dekhenge — taaki tum apna build isi pe banao.

Scope — kya banana hai

Kya hai?

Capstone matlab ek poora chhota multimodal feature: user image/audio deta hai, system validated jawab deta hai — native ya pipeline wala choice, token/cost budget, structured fields ya citations, aur low confidence pe human review. L12 ki har lesson isi ka ek block hai.

Kab kaam aata hai?

Portfolio project, interview demo, ya asli office feature — jahan tum prove kar sako ki tum multimodal ko sirf API call nahi, ek system ki tarah dekhte ho.

Kahan milta hai?

Tumhare repo mein: ek service ya CLI jo modality input leta hai, ek eval set, aur ek README jisme architecture aur trade-offs likhe hon — yehi deliverable hai.

Scope pehle rakho: ek hi modality, ek hi user job, ek hi measurable success (jaise extracted fields ka exact-match count apne test set pe). Sab kuch karne wala capstone kuch bhi prove nahi karta — depth hi yahan impress karti hai.

Teen options: (a) document extractor — vision + schema + grounding; (b) voice agent — STT + LLM + TTS loop; (c) cross-modal asset search. Teenon mein wahi skeleton hai, aur L4 wala eval/guardrail/reset-logic bhi wapas aayega.

Architecture — input se validated jawab tak

# Skeleton: accept -> modality handle -> model -> validate -> respond
def handle(request):
    payload = accept(request) # image / audio, size limits yahin
    if not within_budget(payload): # resolution, duration, file count
        return reject("payload too large")

    artefact = to_model_input(payload)        # resize/crop ya raw audio
    draft = model.ask(artefact, prompt_with_schema())

    result = validate(draft, schema) # types, ranges, required fields
    if result.low_confidence:
        return review_queue(payload, draft) # human review, silent flow nahi

    return respond(result, source=payload.ref)  # page/region/time citation
System thinking: Model call ek function hai, feature nahi. Validation, review path, limits aur logging — yehi cheezein interview mein "production-ready" kehlaati hain, aur yehi capstone ko demo se alag karti hain.

Eval set aur grounding

# Apna eval set — vendor demo se kaam nahi chalega
cases = [
    {"input": "img/invoice-03.jpg", "q": "total?",   "gold": "1,240"},
    {"input": "img/scan-11.png",   "q": "due date?", "gold": "2026-11-05"},
    {"input": "aud/call-07.wav",   "q": "mood?",     "gold": "frustrated"},
]
# Har case pe: match score + latency + cost log karo
# Grounding: har field ke saath source ref (page 4 / region / timestamp)
# Regression: model ya provider badalne pe yehi suite dobara chalao
Acceptance test: Tumhara system bina tumhare control ke chale — galat input pe reject kare, uncertain pe review jaaye, sab kuch log ho. Tabhi capstone actually "ship" hua hai, demo nahi.

Ship checklist aur interview delivery

Interview delivery: Capstone ko chaar cheezein batao: problem, modality/architecture choice, apne eval set ke numbers, aur ek trade-off jo tumne jaan-boojh kar chuna. Ye aakhri point sabse zyada impress karta hai — trade-off samajhne wala engineer.

Exercise

Question: Payload ke size/duration limits kahan lagani chahiye — model call ke baad ya accept stage pe?

Question: Low-confidence extraction ko directly database mein daalne ke bajaye kahan bhejte hain? (human ___)

Question: Free-form summary ke bajaye model se jiska structure pehle se define ho, aise output ko kya kehte hain? (do shabd)

Question: Model ya provider badalne par wahi quality suite dobara chalana — us process ka naam? (regression / staging)

Common mistakes

Desi example: Dukan ka naya bill counter

Dukan mein bill counter lagta hai toh sirf machine nahi lagti — unit check hota hai (validate), GST rule samjha jaata hai (schema), operator train hota hai (eval), aur galat bill pe cancel button bhi hota hai (review). Bina rules ke machine dukaan nahi chalti:

text
counter (model) -> rule check (schema) -> galat ho toh cancel (review)
               -> roz ka hisaab log (observability)
bina rules ke machine chalti nahi — bina eval ke feature ship nahi
Interview angle — yahan se sawaal aate hain
  • Q: Capstone ka scope kaise rakhte ho? — Ek modality, ek user job, ek measurable success criteria; sab kuch karne wala build kuch prove nahi karta.
  • Q: Tumhara pipeline kab reject karta hai? — Accept stage pe hi limits (resolution, duration, files) — budget wahin banta hai, model call se pehle.
  • Q: Vision extraction mein hallucination se kaise bachoge? — Schema + typed validation + confidence gate → review chain, sab ke saath grounding ref.
  • Q: Production readiness kaise prove karoge? — Eval suite CI mein, stage-wise latency logs, cost estimate, privacy/retention note, fallback path.
  • Q: Interview mein capstone kaise present karoge? — Problem, modality/architecture choice, apne eval ke numbers, aur ek jaan-boojh kar chuna trade-off.
Lesson complete?

L12 complete! Tum ab image, audio aur unke pipelines ko token-level samajh kar, eval karke aur ship karke le sakte ho — yehi multimodal engineering hai.
