Lesson 77 — Intermediate

Memory & State Offloading

Sab kuch window mein rakhna zaroori nahi — kuch cheezein bahar store karo aur demand par wapas laao. Offload se window chhoti rehti hai, task lamba chalta hai, aur crash ke baad bhi progress bacha rehta hai.

Offload kya hai

WHAT

Active window se information hata kar files, databases, scratchpads ya memory stores mein likhna — aur zaroorat par lazy recall. Window chhoti, store bada.

WHEN

Long-running tasks, multi-session agents, bade tool results, plans jo ghante chalte hain — jab "yaad rakhna" aur "space bachana" dono zaroori hon.

WHERE

NOTES.md/progress files (agents ke liye sabse common), sqlite/memory store (apps ke liye), scratchpad (ek turn ke andar ke liye).

Do alag sawaal hain jo ek hi jagah solve hote hain: kya yaad rakhna hai (memory — user prefs, decisions) aur kya window se hatana hai (offload — bhiyaan ka junk). Store common, lifecycle alag.

Recall rule: Bahar likha hua tab tak free hai jab tak andar na aaye — demand par search karke sirf zaroori slice load karo, poora store nahi.

Active vs stored context

Har turn se pehle decide karo kaunsa data active window mein baithne layak hai:

Offload ka point: Offload isliye nahi ki baad mein chalega — isliye ki ABHI chahiye nahi. Hamesha andar rakhne se wohi context inflation wapas aa jaati hai.

Note-taking agent

def start_turn(task):
    notes = read_notes() # progress, decisions, open items
    return plan_next(notes, task) # agla step notes se, blank se nahi

def finish_turn(state, result):
    append_note(
        f"- done: {state.step} | next: {state.next} | "
        f"facts: {result.key_ids}")   # durable, chhota, specific
# Notes = agle session ka context — fresh ho tab likho, pressure mein nahi
Specific likho: "Kaam ho gaya" ka agle turn mein koi fayda nahi. Done + next + key facts — wahi do lines agla turn bacha leti hain.

Plans & progress persist karo

Durable truth: Conversation history asli truth nahi hai — files, git commits aur tests hain (L6.8 harness isi par banta hai). Truth jahan wahan, window sirf uska cache hai.

Remember vs free — do alag kaam

Memory = value kal bhi hai (user preferences, learned facts). Offload = aaj ka junk hataana. Dono same store mein rah sakte hain, par unka retention alag hona chahiye.

Interview line: "Memory remembering ke liye hai, offloading space ke liye — dono external hain, policy alag." Yehi do lines alag kar deti hain senior answer ko.

Exercise

Question: Long-term user preferences ko bahar store karna — ek shabd, English?

Question: Window se info hata kar demand par wapas laana — ek shabd, English?

Question: Har turn ke baad progress externally likhne wale agent ka pattern — do shabd, English?

Common mistakes

Desi example: Tuition ki diary

Teacher roz poora lecture yaad nahi rakhti — diary mein topic, homework aur kya nahi hua woh likhti hain. Agli class wahi diary padhti hai. Offloading wahi hai: window = class, diary = external store.

text
store = {"prefs": ..., "decisions": ..., "progress": ...}   # bahar
window = load(store, need=turn)                           # sirf zaroori andar
Interview angle — yahan se sawaal aate hain
  • Q: Memory aur offload mein farq? (yaad rakhna vs space bachana — dono external, lifecycle alag)
  • Q: Note-taking agent ka design? (start par read, end par done+next+facts likhna — specific, small)
  • Q: Long task ke liye kya persist karoge? (plan file, steps log, artifact paths, decisions + why)
  • Q: User-facing memory mein compliance kaise? (visible entries, delete option, TTL — DPDP angle)
Lesson complete?

Store, recall aur notes — offloading ka loop complete. Agli lesson: jab corpus itna bada ho ki window hi na pade, tab kya strategy chalte hain.
